Cummins DPF MAINTENANCE

The following lists the maintenance items required to properly perform the DPF Maintenance for most Cummins DPF/SCR Systems. For pre-2010 systems disregard the SCR/DEF items.

DPF

EXHAUST AFTERTREATMENT
      DPF & SCR MAINTENANCE

Service the following:

  • SOOT/ASH CLEAN THE DPF CORE.

  • SOOT CLEAN THE DOC CORE.

  • CORE RETENTION

    • Ensure no loss in "DPF CORE RETENTION" and "DOC CORE RETENTION".

  • DPF DIFFERENTIAL PRESSURE SENSOR TUBING

    • Clear the DPF Differential Pressure Sensor TUBING of any soot blockage.

  • DEF CRYSTALLIZATION

    • Inspect the SCR Catalyst and Mixer, remove and clean as needed.

  • EXHAUST LEAKS

    • Inspect the entire Exhaust System, repair any exhaust leaks found.

  • DEF NOZZLE

    • Remove/Inspect the DEF NOZZLE, clean DEF Crystallization with water.

  • DPF FUEL INJECTOR

    • Remove/Inspect the DPF FUEL INJECTOR, clean and test (only complete if DPF REGEN problems are occurring).

  • FAULTS (ENGINE & DPF) - INSPECTION

    • Inspect all Faults present, make repairs as needed to ensure no elevated levels of engine soot production.

  • CLEAR ALL FAULTS

    • Any Active Fault will stop all DPF/SCR Function. â€‹â€‹â€‹

  • ECU SOFTWARE UPDATES

    • Check for any ECU Software Updates available, update as needed via Cummins INSITE.

  • DPF PARKED REGEN - TEST

    • Perform a DPF Parked REGEN and ensure passes (if Exhaust Temps do not rise over ~500F inspect the Turbocharger VGT Actuator, if Exhaust Temps do not rise over ~1,000 possible damaged DOC Core, Exhaust Leak, or DPF Fuel Injector / Engine Fueling Issue). The DPF REGEN should run to successful completion within 1.5hrs.

  • SCR PERFORMANCE - TEST

    • Perform an SCR Performance Test via Cummins INSITE. Once the Exhaust Temps exceed 500F, the NOx Sensors will begin to read. Ensure all NOx Sensors reading correctly. Once the DEF Nozzle sprays, the NOx Reduction will begin. After the SCR System runs for at least 20 minutes, ensure the Outlet NOx Sensor is reading 10% or less of the Inlet NOx Sensor, as this will indicate that the Overall NOx Reduction is greater than 90%. The entire SCR Performance Cycle can take as long as 2.5hrs.

Replace the following:

  • DEF FLUID FILTER

  • DPF/DOC GASKETS

  • DEF Fluid Tank BREATHER (if needed)
