Mack "Spark Assisted DPF" MAINTENANCE

The following lists the maintenance items required to properly perform the DPF Maintenance for most Mack DPF/SCR Systems. For pre-2010 engines, disregard the SCR/DEF items below.

DPF

EXHAUST AFTERTREATMENT
      DPF & SCR MAINTENANCE

Service the following:

  • SOOT/ASH CLEAN THE DPF CORE.

  • SOOT CLEAN THE DOC CORE.

  • CORE RETENTION

    • Ensure no loss in "DPF CORE RETENTION" and "DOC CORE RETENTION".

  • DPF DIFFERENTIAL PRESSURE SENSOR TUBING

    • Clear the DPF Differential Pressure Sensor TUBING of any soot blockage.

  • DEF CRYSTALLIZATION

    • Inspect the SCR Catalyst and Mixer, remove and clean as needed.

  • EXHAUST LEAKS

    • Inspect the entire Exhaust System, repair any exhaust leaks found.

  • DEF NOZZLE CLEANING

    • Remove the DEF Nozzle, clean all DEF Crystallization using distilled water. If DEF Nozzle is suspected to be in poor condition run the DEF NOZZLE FLOW TEST via PTT, to confirm correct volume of DEF Fluid passing through DEF Nozzle.

  • CAV VALVE & SAV VALVE - TEST

    • Test & Inspect the COMBUSTION AIR VALVE & SUPPLEMENTAL AIR VALVE via PTT, and ensure both are cycling correctly (optional).

  • DPF FUEL PUMP - TEST

    • Test & Inspect the DPF FUEL PUMP, ATOMIZATION MODULE, AIR PRESSURE SENSOR, and FUEL PRESSURE SENSOR via PTT (optional).

  • DPF IGNITION COIL & ELECTRODES - TEST

    • Test & Inspect the DPF IGNTION COIL and IGNITION ELECTRODES via PTT (with new Electrodes and Wires installed).

  • OIL ENTRY INTO ENGINE INTAKE & CAC - INSPECTION

    • Inspect the Engine Intake for signs of Oil entry, clean and repair as needed. The DPF System will run poorly. Generally an old clogged CCV Filter will cause oil entry, but also may be due to failed Turbocharger and other issues.

  • FAULTS (ENGINE & DPF) - INSPECTION

    • Inspect all Faults present, make repairs as needed to ensure no elevated levels of engine soot production.

  • CLEAR ALL FAULTS

    • Any Active Fault will stop all DPF/SCR Function.

  • ECU SOFTWARE UPDATE

    • Check for any ECU Software Updates for all truck ECUs, run updates as available.

  • DPF PARKED REGEN

    • Perform a DPF Parked REGEN, ensure ignition occurs and flame temp rises over 1,000F. Confirm the DPF Parked REGEN runs to successful completion.

  • SCR PERFORMANCE TEST

    • Perform an SCR Performance Test and ensure passes. If SCR Test is not available, recommend ensuring that the Inlet NOx Sensor and Outlet NOx Sensor reading correctly after exhaust temps over 500F.

Replace the following:

  • IGNITION ELECTRODES (2X)

  • IGNITION WIRES (2X)

  • FUEL NOZZLE (possible to clean as alternative)

  • FLAME TEMPERATURE SENSOR

  • DPF GASKETS (2X)

  • DEF FLUID FILTER

  • DEF Fluid Tank BREATHER (if needed)
